Dr. Athanasios Tournas is an Otolaryngologist-Head and Neck surgeon, who is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He is also fellowship-trained in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He sees both children and adults in his practice located in the Carondelet Pavilion and has been working at St. Mary’s for almost seven years.
As an Otolaryngologist, Dr. Tournas sees patients with issues related to the ears, nose and sinuses, airway, snoring/sleep apnea, voice and swallowing.
As a Head and Neck Surgeon, Dr. Tournas sees patients with benign and malignant lesions of the head and neck originating in the oral cavity, airway, thyroid, lymph nodes and salivary glands. He performs staging, management, and long-term follow-up of patients with head and neck cancer and collaborates with colleagues in radiation oncology and medical oncology.
As a Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Tournas sees patients with benign and malignant cutaneous lesions of the face and neck and performs resections along with local flap reconstructions and/or skin grafting. He performs functional rhinoplasties, as well as maxillofacial trauma and management of TMJ disorder.
Dr. Tournas takes time in educating his patients about their conditions and treatment options, and answering whatever questions they may have so they have a clear understanding of their treatment plan.
