NURSE RESIDENCY

The Nurse Residency program focuses on new entry-level nurses as they transition into the professional practice environment. SMH’s evidenced-based curriculum incorporates three key areas: leadership, patient outcomes and professional development.

ER DEVELOPMENT TRACK

Our comprehensive program is designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary for RNs to practice effectively in the ER setting. This is a three-phase program that focuses on medical-surgical, intensive care and high-risk emergency care. Training includes a mix of didactic, simulation, online modules, and mentored experiences. You will be paired with an experienced ED RN to help you build relationships, gain hands-on training and serve as a trusted resource.

ICU DEVELOPMENT TRACK

Our ICU track gives recent graduates and experienced RNs interested in critical care the opportunity and tools to advance within the field. Training includes didactic, professional seminars that focus on comprehensive assessment skills, patient care management, interprofessional collaboration and nursing models of care delivery.

CLINICAL RESOURCE NURSE

RNs from our Education Department participate with our Rapid Response Team to support bedside RNs manage change of conditions, be a resource for procedures and policy inquiries and guide application of evidence-based practices. RNs can text, call or email the Clinical Resource Nurse for clinical expertise.

 

NATIONAL NURSING CERTIFICATION (ANCC Success Pays)

We support nursing professional development with 100% finance for national certification exams from the American Nurse Credential Center (subdivision of the American Nurses Association). By becoming certified, nurses validate their expert knowledge, skills and clinical astuteness.

 

CLINICAL LADDER

We offer a robust clinical ladder program designed to promote professional excellence, autonomy, and accountability. All full-time, part-time and per diem (Ave 16 hours per week) Monetary recognition ranges $1/hr-$3/hr

 

RN STUDENT SHADOW/OBSERVATION EXPERIENCE 

Demonstrating our commitment to nurture and empower professional transformation in Nursing at SMH we invite experienced RNs and RN student nurses to observe and shadow real life RN experiences to learn more about us.

SHARED GOVERNANCE

The shared governance framework is a vital part of SMH Nursing. Our councils create a great forum for collective wisdom to flourish and elevate our professional nursing practice.

Nurse Advisory Council Responsible for coordinating, integrating, monitoring and communicating the activities of the other councils.
Nurse Informatics Council Advocates and supports nursing electronic clinical documentation with the use of evidence-based nursing practices.
Patient Safety Peer Improvement Council Makes decisions related to the advancement of quality and safety practices. Utilizes nurse-sensitive indicators to facilitate performance improvement measures. Directs and implements decisions related to the nursing peer review process.
Nurse Practice Council Makes decisions related to the revision and implementation of standards of clinical practice and patient care consistent with evidence-based practice, national specialty guidelines and regulatory requirements.
