Three Providers Join St. Mary’s Amsterdam Family Health Center
AMSTERDAM, N.Y., Nov. 3, 2025—Three more primary care providers—Dr. Elaine Blackman, pediatrician; Dr. Preshanthini Shanmugathasan, family medicine physician; and Kylie George, physician assistant—have joined Amsterdam Family Health Center of St. Mary’s Healthcare.
All three are accepting new patients. All three share St. Mary’s commitment to making high-quality healthcare easily accessible in Fulton and Montgomery counties, especially to those who are underserved.
“Primary care is the foundation of good health, and our team takes pride in providing exceptional access so patients can be seen quickly, when they need care most,” said Erika Iler, director of physician practice outpatient services at St. Mary’s Healthcare.
While other healthcare organizations are struggling to attract primary care providers, the independent community hospital has added 12 primary care practitioners in 12 months.
“Our mission resonates with providers who care deeply about community health and prefer a more personal, patient-focused environment,” said Jeff Methven, St. Mary’s president and CEO. “As word spreads about our culture of compassion and excellence, more patients, providers and associates are choosing St. Mary’s.”
The new primary care providers join a team of 49 family physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants in eight St. Mary’s primary care locations.
Dr. Blackman earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Florida and completed a pediatric internship and residency at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Pennsylvania. Dr. Shanmugathasan has more than a decade of experience as a family physician. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from Ross University
School of Medicine and completed a residency in family medicine at Ellis Medicine. Kylie George earned a Master of Science in Physician Studies from Clarkson University and completed clinical rotations in five New York hospitals, including St. Mary’s.
