Hospitalists are doctors who provide care while you are staying at St. Mary’s Hospital. They provide 24-hour coverage and work closely with your outpatient providers to care for you during hospitalization and when you are discharged. This ensures that you always have a doctor coordinating your care team while you’re in the hospital.
When you are admitted to the hospital, we inform your primary care physician’s office and receive your medical history. Our hospitalist then becomes your primary doctor for your inpatient stay.
When you are discharged, the hospitalist works with your primary physician again to plan your follow-up treatments, medications, referrals, and the timing of your next appointment with your primary physician. The hospitalist also sends records of your hospitalization to your primary care physician.
