St. Mary’s Healthcare Recognizes Nurse – Mikala Foster – as Newest DAISY Awardee

St. Mary’s Healthcare Amsterdam Urgent Care congratulates Mikala Foster, LPN as the Newest DAISY Awardee!  Mikala’s nomination was submitted by a patient’s spouse who was forever grateful for Mikala’s compassion and positive approach. Mikala’s nomination read, “My husband was suffering from extreme pain in his shoulders and neck, he was anxious that it might be something serious. Mikala with her sunny disposition and funny quips was able to ease my husband’s anxiety and put him at ease. Mikala spreads sunshine wherever she goes. She is a huge asset to the unit and her profession.” Thanks to Mikala’s guidance and dedication to the Mission of St. Mary’s, she provided a positive experience to her patient when they were enduring pain and distress.

About the DAISY Foundation:

The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family.  Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.)  The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
