The St. Mary's Emergency Department is ranked one of the top emergency departments in the community and the nation. The Emergency Room received the 5 star rating from HealthGrades (the nation's most trusted, independent source of physician information and hospital quality ratings) for treatment of heart attacks. Our mission is to provide timely, appropriate, quality emergency care for patients and their families.
The ED is staffed 24 hours a day by physicians and mid-level providers trained in emergency medicine. Patients are seen immediately upon arrival in the rapid assessment zone, also known as PIT (Provider in Triage), by a provider and nurse team. They allocate an emergency severity index (ESI) score to the patient based on acuity and severity of their illness , then determine to which area of the Emergency Department the patient needs to go. More complex and acutely ill patients are moved into the main ED and less complex patients to the Super Track area.
The Super Track sees approx. 25% of the ED patients. This unit evaluates patients with less acute and less complex conditions, usually complaints that can be managed in less than one hour. Super Track hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, including holidays. The Super Track is staffed by a certified mid-level provider, either a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant. St. Mary's ED also provides acute care to the mentally ill, alcohol and detox services.
One of our priorities is to evaluate the strengths and opportunities for improvement of the current Emergency Room and SuperTrack Services. We are eager to hear feedback and ideas from community members. Please feel free to call 518-841-7235.
