Center for Complementary TherapiesThe Center for Complementary Therapies addresses the needs of people throughout their life span - from birth to death. The Center provides an energetic approach to healing in mind, body and spirit through individual treatments and group programs. Healing Touch
This is a holistic, relaxing and nurturing energy therapy. Gentle touch assists in balancing your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Healing Touch works with your energy field to support your natural ability to heal. It is safe for all ages and works in harmony with standard medical care.

The Healing Touch Program is nationally accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and is endorsed by the American Holistic Nurses' Association. Practitioners and Instructors are certified through the Healing Touch Program. Janet Mentgen, RN, founded Healing Touch in 1989 as a continuing education program for nurses, other health care professionals and lay persons. Workshops are offered throughout the year at St. Mary's Hospital, and at other locations upon request.

Healing Touch Volunteers Program
Healing Touch is provided to patients at St. Mary's Hospital by trained volunteers. The patient and/or family members may request a Healing Touch Volunteer through their nurse or directly through the Volunteer office.

Healing Touch Buddies
Healing Touch Buddies is a volunteer program in Montgomery and surrounding counties which provides a Healing Touch volunteer to women with breast cancer. Treatments are offered at the Carondelet Pavilion, 380 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Healing Touch Practice Group 
The practice group is offered, monthly, for the purpose of Healing Touch practitioners, students and those in their period of mentorship to come together for the purpose of practice and sharing. Call the Center for scheduled dates.

Healing Touch: A Spiritual Approach
Participants in a prayerful environment will learn interventions for pain reduction and relaxation. They will grow in their awareness of the gifts which they have been given to be used in the service of God's people. The program is offered at St. Mary's Hospital as well as in churches of all religious denominations upon request.

T'ai Chi Chih ®
T'ai Chi Chih ® is JOY THROUGH MOVEMENT - a moving meditation. It is a series of 20 simple movements that are joyous and easy to learn. The movements are slow, gentle and can easily be done by anyone, regardless of age or physical condition. They involve no physical contact, but rather emphasize self-awareness, well-being, and energy flow. Classes are offered throughout the year by an accredited T'ai Chi Chih ® Teacher at St. Mary's Hospital and other locations upon request.

The Labyrinth
The Labyrinth, a form of walking meditation, is an effective tool for those who seek a grounded and imaginative spiritual journey toward deeper self-knowledge. The labyrinth design is a geometrical pattern that has one well-defined path leading the walker inward to the center and then back when followed. The process of moving the body along a meandering yet purposeful path allows for a quieting of our conscious/thinking mind. The labyrinth experience is offered throughout the year at St. Mary's Hospital.

Yoga for Everyone
Yoga is a gentle and compassionate approach to stretching, breathing, relaxation, and meditation exercises. The benefits include deep relaxation, improved flexibility and strength, and improvement concentration. Yoga is offered throughout the year by a certified Yoga teacher.

Smokeless
Smokeless is a positive approach to breaking the smoke habit. A certified instructor teaches a broad range of techniques and skills which include stress management, motivational tools, and positive reinforcements. Smokeless is offered to individuals by appointment.

Reflexology
Reflexology is a method of applying gentle pressure to the feet in order to: reduce stress, improve circulation, and bring out relaxation. Reflexology has its roots in acupressure which is an ancient technique for promoting good health and revitalizing the body's energy. Centering Prayer
Participants will learn about and practice Centering Prayer as proposed by Father Thomas Keating, as well as Energy Center connection while reflecting upon the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This program offers a day of quiet and peace.

Hypnocounseling
"Hypnosis is the act of setting aside the conscious mind and of giving the subconscious mind permission to accept suggestions that will enhance and change human behavior." –Durso. People may request hypnocounseling for stress reduction and relaxation, smoking cessation, and weight reductions.

Rainbow Connections: Color in our Lives
In this workshop participants will enjoy hearing about the benefits of color for balance in life; the importance of color and food: color and clothing and how to improve the quality of life through color and visualization. You will have the opportunity to spend some time focusing on the Energy Centers and associated colors for health and balance. You will learn the effects of color: emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically.

An Annual Complementary Therapies Conference is offered each spring.
